Washington 2007

Photos from our 2007 family trip to Washington state. Enjoy

!
Pine Cabin we stayed in at Mounthaven, a lovely resort just outside
of Mt. Rainier National Park. I didn't want to leave!

Nisqually River valley, Mt. Rainier National Park. Evidence of last fall's horrendous floods
were everywhere - it's amazing any part of the park is able to be open! It took thousands of
volunteers to get it back into shape enough to open this spring.

My son and daughter showing their affection for each other after a week of sharing
a car seat and hotel room. Ain't they sweet? (After 2 weeks, their suitcases full of
dirty laundry didn't smell so sweet!)

Mt. Rainier
As you can see from many of these photos, we had phenomenal weather
 most of the trip.

Unicorn Peak and Unicorn Lake, Mt. Rainier N.P.

Mt. St. Helens
She was puffing a lot of steam that day! The moonscape below the mountain
used to be all old-growth forest. Near where this picture was taken,
a young geologist was killed when the initial blast leveled
everything for miles.

Forest wildflowers, Olympic National Park
Mostly foamflower, oxalis, and maidenhair fern.

This is how my husband looks most of the time while on
vacation - with a camera stuck to his eye.

Mountain goat, Hurricane Ridge, Olympic N.P.

Young black-tail deer, Hurricane Ridge, Olympic N.P.

Waterfall, Olympic N.P.

Tidal pool and rocks, Rialto Beach, Olympic Peninula

Starfish, Rialto Beach

Drift log and sea stacks, Rialto Beach

One of thousands of giant drift logs that line the beaches of the Olympic
Peninsula. My son is about 5' 9".

The downed log on which this tree sprouted has long since rotted away,
leaving it "walking" above the ground.

Cape Dungeness Nat'l Seashore, near Sequim, WA

Lavender fields and poppy, Jardin du Soleil lavender farm, Sequim, WA.
My biggest splurge of the trip was to buy a big bottle of freshly distilled
organic lavender essential oil from here!
